Joining Date A Widower takes a few minutes. You make a profile, tell us who you would like to meet, and each day we suggest members near you who fit. You message the people you like, when you like, on a computer or your phone. Here is the whole tour, and what VIP and VIP Plus add.
On your phone or your computer
The site runs in any modern web browser. On a phone, you can add it to your home screen, where it opens full screen like an installed app and copes when your signal drops. Native apps for iPhone and Android are offered in selected markets. Your messages, matches and settings are the same wherever you sign in, so you can start a conversation on the laptop and carry it on from the couch.
Tell your story your way
Your profile is photos, a short bio and a set of interest labels, from travel and cooking to the outdoors, pets and church. Say what you are looking for, whether that is a long-term partner, companionship or friendship first; the matching takes it into account. How much you share about your late spouse is entirely up to you. Most members find a single line is enough, and our guide to writing a dating profile when you are widowed has wording that works. As you use the site, badges appear on your profile: Verified once you pass the free ID check, and others such as Chatterbox, Heartthrob and Most Popular as people respond to you.
A fresh shortlist every day
Every day you get new suggestions. The matching weighs the age range you set, who you want to meet, distance, how recently people have been active, the kind of relationship you want, habits such as drinking and smoking, your interests, and faith where you have shared it. It finds people worth a look. The first message, and the pace after that, are yours.
More than one-to-one messages
There is also a members' feed where people post updates and photos and comment on each other's, plus polls and quizzes to join. VIP members can use the members-only chat rooms and set up private group chats of up to 50 people, with free members welcome in them. Some widowed members use a group chat to plan a meal out or a weekend trip together, which takes the pressure off a first meeting.

Want to be seen first?
VIP Plus puts your profile at the top of each potential match's daily suggestions, shows your messages and likes before anyone else's, and opens a set of exclusive matches. Two extras can be bought on top: a profile boost, which shows you to every active member in your area for a while, and Super Match, a highlighted message your match always sees first and can reply to straight away.
Real people, checked
ID verification is free for every member and adds a badge to your profile. If you would rather not upload documents, a short live video check with a moderator does the same job, and our team can also validate a profile by hand. Do I need to download anything?
No. The site works in your phone's browser and can be saved to your home screen like an app. Native apps exist in selected markets if you prefer one.
Can free members send messages?
Yes. A free account comes with a number of messages each day, and you can always read and reply to messages from VIP and VIP Plus members.
Can I say I am looking for friendship?
Yes. Your profile says what you are open to, from friendship to a long-term relationship, and the daily matches take that into account.
Do I have to verify my ID?
No, it is optional and free. A verified badge does make people more comfortable replying, so it is worth the few minutes.
Is it hard to use if I am not good with technology?
It is built to be simple: a profile, a daily list of people, and a messages screen. If you get stuck, the support team can be reached at any hour by chat, phone or message.
